pannenkoek2012 has done the impossible: he has found an impossible Goomba in Super Mario 64. In the last level of the game, there's a platform with two Goombas on it. Seems normal enough, but observant fans have noted that this is the only instance in the game where there are only two Goombas in a group — normally, they appear in groups of three. |
So this has lead fans to wonder: where is the third? Well, the aforementioned pannenkoek2012 set out to find it, and find it he did. The only problem is now, it cannot be defeated!
This is because, though we now know where it is, it is physically impossible to reach it. The Goomba's spawn point and actual location are simply too far apart — Mario can never be withing the Goomba's range and the spawn point range at the same time!
Several attempts have been made to defeat this impossible Goomba; creating a platform below it, throwing things at it. Nothing so far has worked (and you can see the attempts in the Ideas for Killing the Goomba video), but eventually some crazy fan might just figure it out! We eagerly await the day that this elusive Goomba will be stomped!
